Selected journalists from the Eastern, Volta and Oti regions
have been trained on Monetary Policy and Financial Stability Reporting to help
improve their knowledge on the operations of the Bank of Ghana (BoG) for
informed reporting.
This is to equip the journalists to properly communicate on
issues of the BoG to the public to inform their decisions and enhance
development.
The two-day training workshop, which ended in Ho on Friday,
was organised by the Private Newspaper Publishers Association of Ghana
(PRINPAG) with support from the BoG.
Participants were taken through issues relating to Monetary
Policy Committee (MPC), Financial Stability amongst others.
Dr Ernest Addison, Governor of the BoG, whose speech was
read on his behalf during the workshop, urged financial journalists to acquire
more knowledge to unearth and publish issues through responsible journalism to
ensure financial stability in the country.
However, Hon Johnson Avuletey, Deputy Regional Minister
commended BoG for supporting the training, and said it would be instrumental in
promoting financial literacy amongst the public, indicating that it was good
for the country’s economy.
Mr David Tamakloe, Vice President of PRINPAG expressed the
need for the BoG to strengthen its Communications Department to lead
discussions on its operations and prevent misinformation of the public on MPC
and financial issues.
